BF3 Can’t Connect to EA Servers – Xbox Live

Well the day has come, after all the hype and build up what should be an amazing first 24 hours, we are dealing with up an down servers. EA hasn’t made any official statements as of yet (8PM EST) but the Battlefield Facebook page is surely getting a ear full. No doubt BF3 has gotten a huge amount of more sales in the first 24 hours than Bad Company 2 so it goes without saying that there are expected to be some issues the first 24 hours. Think back to last Christmas time, when everyone and their mother got a copy of Call of Duty under the tree…remember how fucked up the servers were, the lag, the failure to connect. So do as I am doing, pop a couple of Midols and wait the shit out. It will get better as EA adjusts their servers and the first 24 hours past, in the meantime go watch some of my videos, go enter the giveaway for the Hardened Edition at the end of the month, or if all else fails go beat the Campaign mode. The battle of commercials is upon us!

If you have been watching any cable TV lately you might have noticed the Battlefield 3 vs Modern Warfare 3 commercial fight is upon us. Starting this weekend both games started running aggressive commercials claiming they are the game to have this year. The Gamestop BF3 commercial is very entertaining as they showcase the guns you will receive on day one by preordering with Gamestop. It will be interested to see where the numbers fall when the dust clears out. There is one thing that always plays a factor on which game will last on multiplayer and that is your friends. In the past COD and BF fans have been separate, rarely would you see a gamer play both equally. With these two games coming out weeks apart I believe you are going to see more of a mix of COD fans crossing over to Battlefield, and vise versa.

BF3 Beta Over…now what?

There are reasons why I swear by Dice and applaud them for the thought and effort that goes into a release of a game, and one of those reasons is great communication. They have taken our feedback and addressed it in a bullet point format, address legitimate issues with the game and communicating what they are doing to fix it by the launch. Here are the top ten issues:

1. Squad issues: Cannot play with friends within same squad, squads get split up onto opposite teams, etc.
There will be improved squad functionality in the retail game (including but not limited to): the ability to create squads prior to launching into a game, sticking with your squad when joining a game and continuing together through future games (If team balance on the server allows it), inviting friends to a squad and changing squads once in game.

2. Regarding additional Open Beta content and fixes/patches for consoles, including PlayStation 3 issues with chat and party systems
While we would like to patch the Open Beta, DICE is currently focusing its available resources on polishing the retail game.

3. Will DICE have enough time to iron out everything by release?
Please see General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson’s blog post regarding this question.

4. Can we have ability to change settings/options before deployment into match on PC?
The ability to modify your settings via the deploy screen has been added into the retail game.

5. Issues with terrain stability and “falling into the map” on Operation Métro
This has been fixed for the beta via a server side update.

6. Kill cam sometimes zooms out too far or outside the map
This has been fixed for the launch of the retail game.

7. A bug that sometimes keeps some players from being able to sprint
This has been fixed for the launch of the retail game.

8. Screen flickering/stuttering. Blue screen remains after respawn. Game locks up after deploying C4 (360)
This has been fixed for the launch of the retail game.

9. Downed bodies appear to be dead, but are not
The DICE team has been looking into this issue – which is caused by a combination of incidents in a confined area – and are working hard to address the issue for the launch of the retail game.

10. Why is the hit detection seemingly different from Battlefield: Bad Company 2?
The netcode is one of the many things that we are testing as part of the Open Beta and is not necessarily reflective of the final retail game. The DICE team appreciates and has heard the feedback you’ve provided and is further optimizing online play.

Gears of War 3 – BIG Head Mode!

Everyone that knows me well enough knows I am a big fan of some Bobbleheads, so when Big Head Mode became available this weekend you know I was first in line to get some Gears on! I have to admit this gameplay consists of 5 of us in a party doing some hate crime on some bots. To no fault of our own, we couldn’t get a game with actual players on the other team, besides a couple that joined and quit after a game or two this was the extent of last night’s gaming. Also, Gears of War is not something I have ever done commentary for on my YouTube channel, I am wondering what you subscribers and viewers think of more Gears of War 3 Commentary, after of course I learn how to play a little better Let me know in the comment section below, or on the videos comment section on YouTube. Gears of War 3 Disc Not Reading on XBOX 360?

Well I have the fix for that, it’s in the form of a brand new XBOX 360 Gears of War 3 Edition. As shitting as it sounds, my 250GB slim was having all sorts of issues reading the Gears 3 Disc, it actually kept me from playing the multiplayer for a full week after I picked up the game. The console was giving me some issues with new discs but usually a restart would fit it. Not with Gears 3, damn thing wouldn’t read for shit. After nearly beating the shit out of it with a hammer I took to the forums and found out it was a problem with the XBOX and it’s basically not fixable. So I did what any impulsive person would do, went out and bought a $400 replacement that was built for Gears 3. I sold my XBOX to a person that claims they have an easy fix for it, sold it for a little less than the going rate for a non issue XBOX but I rather not deal with it, and I put the money towards the Gears 3 Limited Edition. So far no issues whatsoever, so enjoy this unboxing!

XBOX Live soon to have YouTube

Among other services, YouTube will be offered directly through XBOX Live. This is huge news for the Gamer specific YouTube channels. With this added feature this will open the door to a lot of gamers that either don’t have a computer or maybe they are still living with their parents and you know they are ok with them blowing the shit out of their efriends but not OK with having more than one family computer located directly in the middle of house. I mean honestly how many parents would let their kids watch my dumbass? Exactly. Microsoft says these services will roll out this Fall (currently in Fall) through Winter 2011.
